Medicare Mental Health Phone Service - 1800 595 212
People who are unable to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre in person can call the Medicare Mental Health phone service to speak to a trained professional or receive a referral to a suitable mental health service. The service is available Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (except public holidays).
GPs and other health professionals are encouraged to access the Medicare Mental Health phone service (formerly the Head to Health Phone Service) for advice in supporting their patients and navigating local mental health services that meet the needs of the patient.
Phone service staff ensure that your patient is referred to the appropriate mental health support service with a warm handover.
Medicare Mental Health phone service will continue to keep in touch with the patient until they are connected with the appropriate service provider.

Medicare Mental Health Kids Hubs - 1800 595 212
Kids Hubs (previously known as ‘Head to Health Kids’) provide a welcoming, inclusive place for children aged 0-12 experiencing mild to moderate developmental, emotional, relational and/or behavioural challenges, while also providing support to their families.
Kids Hubs are delivered by the Australian Government in partnership with all states and territories. Support through a Kids Hub is free, and you do not need a Medicare card, a GP referral or a diagnosis to access them.
There are several ways to connect with a Kids Hub:
- Call 1800 595 212 for information about the Kids Hub and other mental health and wellbeing supports in your local area.
- Visit your nearest location and a trained professional will take the time to talk to you to understand and help with your immediate needs. Walk-ins accepted.
- Call your local Kids Hub directly and make an appointment.

Mental health access line
1300 MH CALL (1300 642 255) is a confidential mental health telephone triage service that provides the first point of contact to public mental health services to Queenslanders.
1300 MH CALL is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will link to the caller’s nearest Queensland Public Mental Health service.
The 1300 MH CALL service:
- is the main point of access into public mental health services
- can provide support, information, advice and referral
- can provide advice and information in a mental health emergency or crisis
- is staffed by trained and experienced professional mental health clinicians
- will provide a mental health triage and refer to acute care teams where appropriate.
